Nikortsminda – the temple of the Georgian Orthodox Church which was built in 1010-1014 in Racha during the Bagrat III. The temple is in 15 km from Ambrolauri. It is valuable and known sight in all Rache.
The temple is painted with unique frescos. In frescos all shades yellow are displayed, orange and azures, and it gives a mad look to the temple and makes festive impression. Therefore the unique decor of a cathedral of Nikortsmind is considered one of the richest among the Georgian temples, besides, at its creation by masters some art styles were used at once.
Nikortsminda has krestovo-dome an appearance. The dome lies on a drum with an arkaturny belt and a decorative architrave. The drum represents a subdome hexagon. Five of its sides are adjoined by aspida, and to the western side – the rectangular sleeve, thus is created big internal space of the temple. Besides, outside of and from within a wall are covered with various carved ornaments, apparently, that any of them doesn’t repeat twice.
Near the temple there is a belltower of the XIX century.
Surprisingly, but all this quite well remained. Having visited Racha surely visit Nikortsmind’s temple.
