Vardziya is the ancient cave fortress of 12-13 centuries located in the south of Georgia near Akhaltsikhe (in 70 km to the South from Borjomi).
Most interesting and surprising that fortress wasn’t visible outside at all. When the foe approached the mountain, except the simple mountain he also didn’t see anything. In it the main essence and Vardziya’s feature is. The cave city was connected with a surface by three perfectly disguised openings, and soldiers being in this mountain, appeared before enemy soldiers absolutely unexpectedly – literally from under the earth.
In the mountain there are 600 rooms. There are also rooms which were churches and chapels, cells and storerooms, baths and refectories, kaznokhranilishcha and libraries.
